Email and Network File Conversion

Overview

Information Technology is streamlining the OSU system's central email, network file/print, and directory services to a single, integrated solution - Microsoft Exchange, Windows File and Print Services, and Active Directory. Benefits to the OSU community include:

  • An integrated email and directory solution moving the OSU system closer to using a single login for all services
  • Consolidation of email services to provide the same environment for students, faculty and staff
  • Improved user account provisioning through a single authoritative source to generate consistent IDs and passwords across systems
  • The ability to provide user self-service for identity management
  • A reduction in OSU's costs since annual maintenance costs for the Microsoft solution are less than half of the comparable costs for Lotus Notes and Novell
  • A messaging solution which integrates well with other desktop and internet applications
  • The technical resources and support of Microsoft, the vendor commanding the highest market share in the messaging solutions landscape

End of Life for Lotus Notes Email and Novell

As we move toward the completion of the conversion to Exchange and Active Directory, IT has outlined plans to decommission the old Lotus Notes Email and Novell file/print environments. Lotus Notes Email was withdrawn from active service on the Stillwater campus as of June 30, 2006, and Novell services will be decommissioned by June 30, 2007. For more information, visit the End of Life Plans page.
