Graduate College Online Admissions |
| |
Overview
| |
Information Technology is working with the Graduate College to update its admissions processes. The Online Admissions project will deliver the following results:
| |
- Convert existing paper filing system to electronic filing system for all new graduate student admissions
- Create a web application for prospective graduate students to apply for admission and track the status of their application
- Create an administrative web interface for the Graduate College admissions officers and departmental graduate student coordinators to review, track,
and process new graduate student applications
- Facilitate automatic uploads of graduate student admissions data to SIS

Business Case
| |
The graduate college admissions process is currently very manual, paper-intensive, and time-consuming. The graduate admissions officers spend a great deal of time searching for paper files in filing cabinets, printing and mailing paper copies of student records to departmental graduate coordinators, and hand-entering student admissions information into the Enterprise Student Information System (SIS).
| |
Replacing the paper filing system with electronic document imaging, and automating the admissions process using a web-enabled application will drastically improve the productivity of the Graduate College. Other benefits include cost savings (ex: office floor space, file storage costs, photocopy charges, etc), increased accuracy, greater protection against catastrophic data loss, and improvements in overall customer service.
