Student Spyware Protection |
| |
Overview
| |
The objective of the Student Spyware Protection project is to provide OSU students with software to protect against unwanted spyware.
| |
Ideally, spyware protection would be available for every computer on the OSU network. However, due to limited resources available at this time, OSU IT must implement the spyware protection in a phased approach. The first phase is spyware protection for students, which will be followed by software for employees. Until a comprehensive solution is in place, OSU IT is advising all employees to install free spyware protection tools to help protect their systems and the OSU network from malicious software.

Business Case
| |
Oklahoma State University IT resources are subject to potential threats from unwanted software such as spyware, adware and other malicious software which can slow network response time and desktop processing speeds. Computers not owned by OSU, but used by students and others on the OSU network often have spyware and malware present on the system without the user of the system realizing that it is present. When multiplied by hundreds of such cases on the network, there can be a noticeable problem that is difficult to remove and/or remediate. In addition to performance considerations, spyware can be used in the theft of intellectual property or other confidential information resulting in security threats to the university.
