Multimedia for General University Classrooms

The classroom multimedia projects that we have planned for this summer will impact a total of 24 classrooms. Fourteen of these will be completely new systems where none had been in place before. Ten of the projects will replace portable carts in 10 classrooms in the Classroom Building that are currently very cumbersome to use. All of these systems will incorporate state-of-the-art control systems that will greatly enhance the use and maintenance of the equipment by allowing remote monitoring and control from anywhere on campus. Once these systems are in place, all but one classroom in the Classroom Building will have a permanently installed system.

The new systems will benefit students by

- Making more teaching technology available to the instructors
- Making the technology systems virtually transparent to the instructors
- Helping to prevent downtime by monitoring video projector usage and maintenance remotely
- Allowing real-time remote access to the systems by AV personnel

Other items we hope to address when funds become available will be to

- Update controllers in current systems so that they can be remotely monitored and controlled
- Update older equipment from our pool of loaner equipment
- Update video projectors in current classrooms
- Reconfigure current classrooms to improve the video quality
- Add additional multimedia classrooms
