Individuals or departments setting up a server on campus will need a security certificate. Security certificates are small encrypted software files that confirms the validity of the website. Certificate companies issue security certificates.
OSU uses two types of security certificates - SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and InCommon. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates encrypt sensitive information to protect it and provide authentication.
InCommon, a federated organization of higher education institutions, issue another type of certificate in which an authenticated user from one InCommon institution to be recognized and trusted by other InCommon institutions.
Contact the OSU-IT Helpdesk at 405-744-HELP (4357) or send email to firstname.lastname@example.org to request a security certificate.
