Enterprise Information Technology

We offer Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to enhance your learning and working environment. Many of the platforms you already use include AI-powered features to help you study, research and create more efficiently.

Microsoft Copilot (Recommended AI Tool)

Microsoft Copilot is the primary AI-powered assistant supported by OSU, available through our Microsoft 365 environment.

What Copilot Can Help You Do

  • Draft emails, documents and presentations
  • Summarize long emails, documents or meeting notes
  • Generate ideas, outlines and content
  • Analyze data and identify trends
  • Improve clarity and tone of writing

Enterprise Data Protection

Copilot is our recommended AI tool because it is designed with enterprise-level data protection. That means when you use Copilot through your OSU Microsoft account:

  • Prompts and responses remain within our secure Microsoft 365 environment
  • Data is not used to train public AI models
  • We protect sensitive university information, like student records, research and internal communications

Public AI tools do not provide these protections. They store and learn from submitted information, potentially putting sensitive university data at risk. Using Copilot helps reduce the risk and ensures OSU data is handled responsibly.

Copilot Pro Availability

For users who need additional features, Copilot Pro licenses are available upon request. Copilot Pro extends the platform’s capabilities and offers deeper integration with Microsoft applications. Faculty, staff and students can submit a request through the IT Service Portal.

Supporting  Academic Integrity

OSU is committed to instilling and upholding integrity as a core value. All members of the OSU community are entrusted with academic integrity, which encompasses the fundamental values of honesty, trust, respect, fairness, responsibility and courage.

Engage in dialogue and conversations with your students about the importance of academic integrity, the benefits and pitfalls of using generative artificial intelligence tools, and how to use these tools responsibly and ethically. Explicitly state your expectations about the use of generative artificial intelligence to your students. If you allow students to utilize generative artificial intelligence tools, provide examples of acceptable and unacceptable use.
