Overview

There are primary and secondary methods for authorizing your login when using Duo.

Primary

  • Using the Duo application to push an authorization notice to your mobile device.

  • Using a passcode from inside the Duo mobile application

Secondary

  • SMS passcodes

  • Using automated phone calls made to a mobile or landline device

  • Hardware Passcode FOBs

Setup of authorization methods

Application Push

  1. On the page you are attempting to authorize your login, use the Device dropdown to choose a mobile device (if a mobile device is not already chosen).

  2. Click the Send Me A Push button to send an authorization push notice to the selected mobile device.

  3. Accept and confirm the push notification to authorize your login to the MFA protected service.

Mobile App Passcode

  1. Open the Duo mobile app on your mobile device

  2. Select the Key icon within the app. A six digit passcode will generate.

  3. Click on the Enter Passcode button on the MFA authorization page you are attempting to log into.

  4. Enter the six digit passcode that was generated in the text field provided in the MFA page.

  5. Click on the Login button to complete authorization.

SMS Passcodes

  1. On the page you are attempting to authorize your login, click the Enter A Passcode button.

  2. In the blue bar that appears at the bottom of the page, click the Text me New Passcodes button.

  3. Open the text message on the device that the passcodes were sent (such as a mobile phone). Three passcodes should be available for use. Each code can be used once at a future time. However, once a code is used, it will not be able to be used again.

Automated Phone Call

  1. On the page you are attempting to authorize your login, use the Device dropdown to choose a mobile or landline device that accepts voice calls.

  2. Click the Call Me button

  3. The device you specified should begin ringing. Answer the call.

  4. Follow the prompts from the automated system to authorize your login.

Hardware Passcode FOB

  1. On the Hardware Passcode FOB, select the green button to obtain a six digit passcode

  2. Use the passcode provided when prompted for authentication.
